Adventuresome week; got back from Dallas last Sunday, auditioned for a play, went to BBR's annual karaoke bash Monday, won their Twitter contest Tuesday (I'm pretty sure it was this one), saw the best live band I've seen in a while on Thursday (Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds) at the Hotel Cafe, auditioned for a "zomedy" yesterday, and am heading to a Sacred Fools company meeting in a bit, where we will no doubt talk about important matters for discussion at our upcoming member retreat. ADVENTURESOME!

PAIGE CURTAINS! (get it?) While our champion Alyson "The Techncian" Schultz didn't take home the gold Wednesday night, she did us proud at the L.A. Lady Arm Wrestlers event at Bootleg, where a bunch of theatre companies raised money and had a good ol' time like theatre folk do. Yeah! Then last night the fella and I headed over to the UCB to catch SuperEgo's badass set. And Saturday night the mayhem starts....the Serial Killers playoffs at Sacred Fools. 5/26 11pm! "Mr. Satan Goes to Wall Street" episode 1 was a success, we'll be back for more singing and protesting. Will also make a cameo in Michael Holmes' "Persona Space," and I'm told there will be more grilled cheese, even!
So, as always, come to the show! Serial Killers, Saturday 4/14, 11pm, $7 Sacred Fools Theater 660 N Heliotrope Dr, Los Angeles, 90004 Saturday night, 11pm, I'll be making an appearance in a new Serial Killers piece "Mr. Satan Goes to Wall Street." It's a musical!
Sacred Fools, 660 N. Heliotrope Dr., Los Angeles, 90004 11p, $7 Come for the show, stay for the grilled cheese! And here's a shot from last week: I have a very Sacred Fools weekend coming up; Friday I get to catch Magic Bullet Theory, for which the glowing reviews have started rolling in.
This Saturday I'll be on the Sacred Fools stage once again in Joe Jordan's brand-new Serial Killers piece, "Whimsy." It's directed by the fantabulous Mandi Moss, and I'll be up there with Michael Holmes, Carrie Keranen, Alyssa Preston, Bruno Oliver, and Aaron Francis. This Saturday (3/31), 11pm Sacred Fools Theater 660 N. Heliotrope Dr., Los Angeles CA 90004 And then Sunday I'm workin' the fundraising gala, celebrating 15 years of foolery. (Next Week, will be in Heironymous BANG's musical, "Mr. Satan Goes to Wall Street") I just got back from North Carolina. I hung out with my family, and got to see my brother Dan who is in a rock band called JunkHat. I ate at Bojangle's 3 times. I was there for four days. As it happens, I don't need help deciding to eat there, but if you do, Michael Holmes' "chicken cop" can certainly nudge you in the right direction. I also caught up with old pal Todd Buker, who manage-directs the Triangle's very own Bare Theatre. I haven't seen him since I lived in Greensboro, when we worked on a show we took from the Triad to NY.
Back t'business! Have been monitoring auditions and callbacks for Sacred Fools' Stoneface, and looking forward to seeing Kelly Huddleston's standup at Westside Comedy Theater this Thursday and a run-through of Sacred Fools' next mainstage, Magic Bullet Theory. Thrilled to know and work with so many freakin' talented amazing people. And I'll be back on stage within a couple weeks too, so stay tuned. What? Episode 7, already? Been bringin' the stuff for a while now. Didn't want you to think I've been doin' nothing, so here are some highlights:
For the past few Fridays I've been watching and/or participating in Bang Comedy Theater's new show, 3-Bang, hosted by the one and only and dreamy Ed Goodman. I told a story and I helped someone else tell a story, and there's lots of funny people trying out new funny (or serious, or musical, or whatever) stuff. Go! See! Do! 11pm Friday nights, at BANG! (457 N Fairfax Ave) I also had the pleasure of being in Serial Killers last week at Sacred Fools, where I got to do 2 of my favorite things: make with the funny with Matt Valle, and say words that came out of the strange and wonderful brain of Brendan Hunt. And finally, this week we open The Many Murders of Kristopher K Kringle at Archway Theater down in the downtown. It's a Christmas murder mystery!
I'm in the database for Southern Actors L.A. Just thought you should know.
Last week, the brave and valiant Serial Killers contender Star Wars* was lain to rest. In other news SERIAL KILLERS IS BACK! And so far every single show has been sold out. Yeah! *But not really, it's like--it's almost a--please don't sue me.
Next week I'm participating in a reading of upcoming Sacred Fools mainstage "Crumble," directed by Hollywood Fringe Fest darling Jeremy Aluma (whose 4 Clowns: Romeo and Juliet will run alongside Carnevil in the fall at Sacred Fools). The script is fantastic, and I'm really excited to be a part of the reading. It's open to the public, Wednesday, August 17 at the theater (660 N. Heliotrope Dr, Los Angeles, 90004). And next month, the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council is sponsoring the third annual Artcycle, a block party celebrating our neighborhood, its artists, and, of course, bicycling. After an intense playoff series, Scott Leggett's "Cool Side of the Pillow" came in second place with a lovely, touching, weird-as-hell final episode. To be fair, we lost to Jenelle Riley's beautiful "Kind of Love Story," which was funny and heartwarming and featured one of the best bad guys we've seen in a while.
On the horizon: Sacred Fools company retreat, carmageddon, karaoke, and a reading of Crumble, one of next season's mainstage shows. Alright, y'all. It's gettin' real. We're down to the final four in the Serial Killers playoffs. Surprises and laughs and wtf galore in "Cool Side of the Pillow" this Saturday at 11pm at Sacred Fools.
ALSO! I got some new shots by the inimitable Joanna Brooks (see photos & resume). ALSO! I'm taking the Technique Clinic at Lesly Kahn & Co. this month. It's so much fun and totally kicking m It's gettin' real. The Serial Killers Playoffs have started, and the original 16 contenders have been whittled down to 8. A fresh new episode of "Cool Side of the Pillow" happens Saturday, and also Tim is a girl now.
Also, this is the description for the commercial i auditioned for yesterday: "Very average looking people - both men & women - around 25 - 35. Normal to character types !!! NOT GOOD LOOKING!!!!" Ah, Hollywood. "Cool Side of the Pillow," episode 3, was voted forward, and will be coming back next Saturday (3/26, 11pm) with a shiny new episode. You have yet another chance to see me play a prepubescent foulmouthed English lad whose todger talks to 'im! Serial Killers at Sacred Fools Theater
660 N. Heliotrope Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90004 11p, Saturday, 3/26, $7 (WHATTABARGAIN) Have just had the most exhilarating few weeks of hard work, no sleep, sucking, brilliance, and friendship. Took the Comedy Intensive at Lesly Kahn & Co. Here's my logline: "If Ellen Page played Tracy Flick and worked for the Geek Squad." Eh? Is it me?
Meanwhile, over at Sacred Fools (go see Beckett's Endgame! It opens this Friday), the Artistic Committee is in the grueling, exciting, exhausting process of picking the 15th season. So my two cohorts and I have been reading plays, scheduling meetings, panicking, plotting, and planning. And acting! There's even some acting. Serial Killers returns this weekend, and I'll be coming back in episode 3 of "Cool Side of the Pillow," written and directed by the inimitable Scott Leggett. COME! SEE! Serial Killers Sacred Fools Theater 660 N. Heliotrope Dr., 90004 11p this Saturday, 3/19 ($5 parking lot, free street parking on Edgemont/Heliotrope/Clinton/Melrose) This Friday is the LAST week to see "The Weed Show: Love Letters to Mary Jane" at the Mackenzie in Burbank! The Man (City of Burbank) is shutting it down as the theater itself is apparently not zoned to be, er, a theater. Not because of the building, but because of the location. The zone. It's not zoned for that much awesomeness and that many comfy seats. Also, more Serial Killers on the way, but not until the Endgame cycle starts up at Sacred Fools. So come back March 19th for more "Cool Side of the Pillow!"
FURTHERMORE, my episode of Operation Repo aired last night on TruTv! According to the internet, people are surprised that Operation Repo is not reality. That is true. It is entirely made up, it was fun to shoot, and, you know what? Shame on you for wishing for reality tv in the first place. Last night I rocked some new material at Ten Tops, a revered Sacred Fools tradition I've attended several times, but had never participated in.
Wednesday night I'm bringing back my rascally Tom Sawyer character from last year for a longer version of "The Poe Show" at UCB with Brendan Hunt, Ed Goodman, Henry Dittman, Jaime Andrews, and Pat Towne. Friday night is week two of "Love Letters to Mary Jane" at the Mackenzie Theater in Burbank (8p), and on Saturday night (11p) I'm back in Serial Killers at Sacred Fools in "The Cool Side of the Pillow," a brand new Scott Leggett/Peter Fluet extravaganza. There I will play my second foul-mouthed prepubescent boy with an accent of the week, with rockstars Michael Holmes, Carrie Wiita, Natasha Norman, Eric (4 chairs!) Johnson, Michael Lanahan, and Sean Sweeney round out the motley crew. Love Letters to Mary Jane, Mackenzie Theater Fridays 8p, through March 4: $12 (free for industry!) 1857 North Victory Place, Burbank, 91504 Serial Killers, Sacred Fools Theater Saturday, 11p, 2/12-? $7 660 N. Heliotrope Dr., Los Angeles 90004 January was busy; here are the highlights:
-Now being repped by BBR for Commercial, Non-Union, and Print! -Serving on the Artistic Committee at Sacred Fools Theatre for the 2011-2012 Season! -Starting Lesly Kahn's Comedy Intensive in March; really looking forward to it! -Starting this Friday, I'm in Love Letters to Mary Jane at The Mackenzie Theater, every Friday through March 4th! Exclamation points! Come see me in this show! This Friday, I'm going to be participating in A Sacred Fools Holiday At Home with some lovely talented people. It's a late-night thing, at 11pm after the (Ovation-recommended, L.A. Weekly "GO!," Backstage "Critic's Pick" smash hit Watson).
From the website: "Join us one night only for an intimate show celebrating friendship and the holidays. There will be singing, dancing, live accompaniment, a beer wench and food to eat." I'll be in a dance choreographed by the lovely Natasha Norman. Come wassail with us! |
